Filipino-Americans are often subjected to teasing by family members about their dark skin and are encouraged to lighten their skin using methods like papaya soap or glutathione pills. I feel that lightening my skin would be throwing away my culture. To me, a second generation Filipino American, my skin is a continuous symbol of the pride I have in the country my ancestors come from. This comic is my personal story of my trials and struggles I face regarding the color of my skin.
